What Is The FIFA World Cup?

This time the host is none other than Russia and the event will kick off on June 14^th and it will end on the 15^th of July.

More than 210 nations from all over the world participate in the qualifier rounds.

They come from 6 conferences.

• Asia
• Europe
• North-Central America
• The Caribbean

• South America

Through various stages of grouping together and playing against each other, the final 32 teams get to join the main event.

The host is always guaranteed a place without the need to play any qualifying games thus only 31 places are up for the taking.

After that, the tournament is ready to start.

The 32 teams are divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each.

In the groups, all teams have to face the others one time. The top two teams from each group are then promoted to the stage of 16.

From there on all the games are of a knockout fashion. Each game means that the number of remaining teams halves until only two are left which are the finalist.

Whoever prevails on the final game gets to be awarded the FIFA World Cup winners title. The current champion is Brazil as they have lost in 2014 final to Germany, but has amazingly recovered since then.

How Much Money Is Bet On The World Cup?

Before we begin talking about the amount of money that people bet on the World Cup let’s first take a look at the money that actually goes into the event’s hosting.

First, you have the sponsors who are divided into three categories.

The first one is the official FIFA Partners.

This event has 4 main ones.

The third and last sponsor category are the European Supporters.

At this time only one of them is for sure going to be involved and it is none other than the biggest private commercial bank in the nation of Russia, Alfa-Bank!

The amount of money that Russia has invested in the venues and all the miscellaneous preparations that go into hosting the event is more than 12 billion US dollars!

But this isn’t the end of it. All of that and even more will return to Russia as profit.

Just to get a general idea of how much money they could earn from hosting the event just hear this.

Brazil, the host of the 2014 event has invested billions of dollars but they got it back and FIFA had a profit of $2.6 billion on its own. And if you thought that teams play just for the sake of their country you couldn’t be any more wrong.

Of the $2.6 billion FIFA gets in average profits from the event (the number is based on the World Cup of 2014) more than 70% of this money comes from betting, both on the legal and illegal market.

So we are currently looking at a $1.82 billion which believe us is an extremely high amount of money.

How much bookmakers make is a big multiplier of that probably more than 10x or so.

In order to be able to provide odds to their customers each bookmaker, either physical or online, has to pay a commission to the FIFA institute.

This often is about 5% of the profits they make.
